WeMachines vs Slack
Slack is where most software teams talk, and for years it was where we talked too. It is a very good chat tool. It is also where a team's context goes to get lost: the decision is in a thread, the ticket is in another tool, the spec is in a third, and the AI you bolt on can only see the chat. WeMachines starts from the same channels and threads and keeps the rest of the work in the same room.
Transparency
Slack has DMs, group DMs and private channels, and that is where a lot of a company actually happens. Decisions get made in a DM and announced later, or never. WeMachines has none of that. Every channel is public to the whole team, agents included, and there is no private room to retreat into. Ego and politics get punished fast, and the AI never answers from half a picture, because nobody can hide the other half from it.
What the AI can see
Slack AI summarizes a channel, answers a question from search and writes up a huddle. All of it works on what lives in Slack. Your tickets are in Linear, your docs are in Notion, your code is on GitHub, and every bot you add to a channel brings its own slice of context and nothing else.
In WeMachines the chat, the tasks, the docs, the polls, the huddle transcripts, the apps and the recent commits are one workspace, and an agent reads all of it. Mention the AI in a channel and it answers with the whole company in context. Assign it a task and a coding agent works your repo and opens the pull request. Press ⌘O and talk to it. Tickets
A Slack thread that turns into work means somebody copies it into a tracker, and somebody else keeps the tracker honest. We never write tickets ourselves. Ask the AI in the thread and the task exists, filled in from the conversation, and it moves as the work progresses. The agents in our terminals move the board too, over MCP, and the team sees them working live. Finished tasks delete themselves after 14 days, and chat expires on the same window. The workspace stays a living organism instead of an archive nobody reads.
Calls
Slack huddles are quick, and we kept that. Ours live in voice rooms you open like a channel, each with its own chat, so a link dropped into a call is still there afterwards. A huddle is transcribed while a mic is on, and when it ends the AI writes the summary and files the full transcript on the Huddles page. Nobody takes notes.
Bots and integrations
Slack's answer to everything outside chat is the app directory: a bot per tool, each with its own install, its own permissions and its own notification noise. Then a canvas for the doc, a list for the tasks, and Workflow Builder to glue it together.
We ask the AI instead. Apps are tools WeMachines builds and hosts for us from a sentence, with their own address and their own database when they need one. Our CRM, our PostHog dashboard and our deploy monitor all started as a message. Routines run on a schedule or on a webhook and post the result into a channel. And the Claude Code or Cursor already open in your terminal joins the workspace with one line in the repo root, free on every plan. It reads the tasks, moves them, and shows up in the sidebar while it works.
Other companies
Slack Connect is one of Slack's best ideas and we built the same thing: a shared channel with another company on WeMachines, opened with a link an admin on their side accepts. Messages cross and nothing else does. No tasks, no docs, no team list, and no AI in the room on either side, so neither company's agents can read the other's conversation.
Where Slack is ahead
Everyone is already on it, and the directory has an app for every tool ever made. It has native apps on every platform, Enterprise Grid for companies with thousands of people, and the compliance exports regulated industries ask for. If you want DMs and private channels, Slack has them, and we will not add them.

Conclusion
Slack sells chat. A team then buys a tracker, a wiki, a note taker and an AI add-on for each, and stitches them together with bots. WeMachines is one app where the same channels sit next to the tasks, the docs, the calls and the repo, and the agents read all of it. Chat is where a team thinks out loud.
